Welcome to the site, my name is Dan MacAuley. My father, a 40 year veteran of the Boston Fire Department first got me interested in the fire service as a young kid. I started taking fire photography over 10 years ago. Just recently I completed four years of active duty in the United States Coast Guard and in November graduated from the Boston Fire Academy. Watertown, MA 3rd alarm 2/26/13 : Just before 10pm on February 26th Watertown firefirefighters responded to 313 Main St. Box 612 for a reported building fire. C2 transmitted a second alarm on arrival for heavy fire showing from a 1 story taxpayer. The fire hadalready begun to vent through the roof and a third alarm was transmitted minutes later as companies went into defensive operations. Watertown's tower as well as two ladder pipes and multiple big lines were placed in service. Heavy fire and smoke pushed through the roof of multiple businesses, luckily a firewall stopped the spread of fire from consuming the studio on the end of the block. Watertown and mutual aid companies operated for over two hours and one firefighter suffered a minor shoulder injury.

Braintree, MA 2nd alarm 2/3/13 : On the morning of February 3rd Braintree firefighters responded to a reported fire at 157 Quincy Ave, first due companies found a boat and garage well involved. As crews worked to knock down the heavy fire and pretect exposures the garage collapsed and a second alarm was soon ordered for station coverage. Crews worked for over an hour extinguishing hotspots and overhauling.

Quincy, MA 4th alarm 7/14/12 : On saturday July 14th around 1430 Quincy fire responded to 320 Quincy Ave for a reported machine fire at the Dependable Cleaners, first due companies found heavy fire in a 1 1/2 story commercial. A second alarm was immediately struck and companies were ordered out of the building. Ladder pipes and big lines were placed in service as the third and fourth alarms were struck bringing all Quincy compaanies and two Boston companies to the fire. Four ladder pipes and numerous big lines operated as heavy smoke pushed from the building. Crews not only faced a stubborn blaze but temperatures near 90 as well. Four firefighters were transported and the building was a total loss.

Newton, MA 3rd alarm 3/2/12 : Around noon Newton firefighters reponded to box 175 for 9-11 Morgan Court for a reported fire. First due companies reported heavy fire showing from a 2 1/2 story woodframe. Command quickly advised the duplex was now fully involved and ordered a 2nd alarm. A ladder pipe and multiple big lines were placed into service as the fire gained control of the attic. The roof quickly collapsed and a 3rd alarm was requested. Companies operated through the afternoon extinguishing pockets of fire.

Boston, MA 4th alarm 2/12/12 : Just before 6:00am box 5336 was struck for a store fire on Chestnut Hill Ave. Car 11 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke from a taxpayer and minutes later ordered a 2nd alarm. Crews made an aggressive interior attack but were backed out due to heavy fire conditions. A ladder pipe and big lines were placed in service at the pizza shop on the corner. As crews continued exterior operations it was evident the firewalls had failed, as now smoke was pouring from attached businesses. Tower Ladder 3 and multiple blitzes were placed in service as gas fed the fire in the rear of the building. At 8:27am C-6 ordered a 3rd alarm and companies were instructed to pick up hydrants coming in. Within an hour a 4th alarm was ordered as heavy smoke and pushed the four businesses. At one point an explosion occurred within a janitorial supplies store sending green and yellow flames into the air. Four ladder pipes, one tower ladder and numerous portable deck guns and handlines operated as heavy smoke pushed from the entire building. Companies soon began to pour foam into the building in an effort to extinguish the stubborn blaze. All companies worked well into the afternoon until the heavy fire was knocked down. Detail companies remained on scene well into the night. Crews also faced frigid temperatures and ice with the temperature of 14 degrees at the time of the fire. Numerous pieces of apparatus were repositioned with the possibility of the building collapsing.

Bear, DE 2nd alarm 1/4/12 : Around 9:30am on January 4th, Engine 12-6 was alerted to a reported fire at the Fox Run Apartments on Squirrel Drive. While enroute Engine 12 noticed a large column from miles away and was informed of possible kids trapped. Command 12 arrived on scene and reported fire through the roof of a 3 story wood frame condo. Engine 12, first due engine, layed in from a hydrant and stretched a 300' 1 3/4 line to the top floor. Crews began searches and an aggressive attack on the fire which was spreading along the roof. As the rest of the box assignment arrived, ground ladders were placed in service and a second line was stretched to the third floor. Command 12 soon ordered a second alarm bringing more resources to the scene. Companies were evacuated for a short time but soon went back to interior ops. Searches were conducted and found to be negative. Crews remained on scene chasing pockets and overhauling. One firefighter was treated for minor burns. Lawrence, MA 4th alarm 11/26/11 : At around 5pm on Saturday night Lawrence firefighters responded to a reported fire at 65 Manchester St. Companies reported fire through the roof of United Linen Supply, part of a large mill complex. A second and third alarm were quickly struck bringing mutual aid to the fire. Companies had heavy fire deep in a 1 story 300x300 brick with a 4 story brick attached. Heavy smoke filled the building and pushed from the roof as crews worked to stop the progress of the fire. Command requested one extra engine and soon struck the fourth alarm for manpower. Air supply was an issue as companies would be close to empty after reaching the deep-seated fire. Numerous 2 1/2 inch lines went into operation as well as an 1 3/4. The stubborn fire continued to burn between roofs and two extra truck companies were ordered to the fire. Crews operated for over five hours, but did an excellent job in stopping the fire from entering the exposure.

Boston, MA 5th alarm 10/30/11 : Just after midnight, Boston fire alarm struck box 236 for a fire "at an unknown address" on Calumet St. Engine 37 was first due and reported fire showing and ordered a second alarm. Truck companies were ordered to bring ground ladders to the front of the building for possible rescues. Car 9 quickly ordered the third and fourth alarms as they had heavy fire in a three story duplex extending to the exposures on either side. Companies began to set up blitz guns and ladder pipes at Acting Deputy Chief Miller ordered two extra engines and shortly after the fifth alarm. Heavy smoke was now pushing from the original fire building with partial collapse of the roof. C1 arrived on scene and took command as multiple ladder ladder pipes and blitz guns operated. An extra engine and truck were ordered over the fifth as companies worked through the morning battling the blaze and winter conditions. Multiple cats and a dog were rescued and treated on scene by BEMS. The cause was found to be a buildup of lint in a second floor dryer.

Somerville, MA 3rd alarm 10/29/11 : Somerville FD was dispatched to Rainbow Carpet on Broadway St, first due companies reported smoke and fire showing and ordered a second alarm. As the fire traveled down the block a third alarm was struck bringing more mutual aid to the fire. Companies battled against the fire traveling the roofline down the block. Four businesses in Teele Square were affected.

Easton, MA 3rd alarm 3/24/11 : On the morning of March 24th, Easton was receiving calls for a building fire off Washington St. First due companies encountered fire through the roof which had partially collapsed during a storm over the winter. Three alarms would be sounded for the Edwards Moving Company which was a total loss, cause was found to be a workers blowtorch.

F/V Miss China 12/27/10 : The Miss China was a inoperable wooden fishing boat that was being used as a houseboat for a local Nantucket man. Little maintnence was done on the boat over the years. During a harsh Nor'easter the Miss China broke free of it's mooring and came to rest just feet from Brant Point Light. Days later it would be moved to the Steamship pier and later towed to New Bedford and dismantled. Coast Guard Station Brant Point launched a 47' motor lifeboat to assist in 60 kt winds, but the owner refused to leave his home.

Boston, MA 3rd alarm 8/4/08 : On Sunday afternoon Box 3442 was struck for 19 Mellen St. Engine 18 was first due and reported smoke showing. Car 8 arrived on scene and ordered a second alarm for fire in a large 2 1/2 story wood frame. Companies encountered heavy fire in the attic and truck companies opened the roof up. A third alarm would soon be struck for relief purposes.

Malden, MA 6th alarm 1/9/10 : Early morning on January 9th, Malden firefighters responded to a fire at 505-509 Pleasant St. Companies found fire showing from the 4th floor extending up. Conditions quickly deteriorated in the 5 story U-shaped brick apartment building and the second and third alarms were struck. As the fire spread throughout the top floors eventually six alarms would be struck with numerous ladder pipes and portable monitors working. A 50 ft. ground ladder was actually thrown between the buildings to gain access to the top floor in the middle.

Revere, MA 3rd alarm 9/23/10 : On the afternoon of September 23rd, firefighters battled heavy fire and extreme temperatures. Before the arrival of first due companies, police officers rescued an unconcious male on an oxygen tank on the second floor. On arrival companies found heavy fire from the rear of 16 Dana St. extending to 1580 North Shore Road. The second and third alarms were quickly struck bringing mutual from all over the North Shore including Massport. Companies worked for almost two hours to knock down the fire in both buildings.

Boston, MA 2nd alarm 12/14/10 : On Tuesday morning January 14th, Box 352 was struck for a fire at 18 Boydin St. Engine 52 first reported smoke showing from a 2 1/2 story woodframe. As the fire began to run the walls Car 8 ordered a 2nd alarm for manpower. The fire quickly spread to the 1st and 2nd floor as well as the attic. Taunton, MA WF 1/14/11 : Just before noon, Taunton companies responded to a report of a fire at 103 Fairbanks Ave, first due company reported smoke showing and found heavy fire on the first floor of a small 1 1/2 story wood frame. A snowstorm the night before made it difficult to access the house and vent the roof. Unfortunately one civilian fatality was reported.

Boston, MA Tech Rescue 9/23/11 : On Friday September 23rd at around 2pm, Boston Engine 10 and Rescue 1 were dispatched for a possible trauma at 50 Northern Ave. After receiving reports of possible construction workers trapped under rebar, a full technical rescue response was dispatched, three constrction workers were quickly freed, but it took firefigters almost an hour to stablize each worker and transport them out of the hole using a crane and cage. All three workers were transported with minor injuries and were expected to make a full recovery.

Nantucket, MA Casulty Drill 9/27/11 : On Tuesday September 26th at around 10am, Nantucket Memorial Airport conducted a large scale mass casulty drill in wich over a dozen agencies were involved. Simulated was a Jet Blue flight with 30 souls on board crashed on the runway.
